Jan 17, Singapore for Chinese New Year?

by Sha
(Canada)

Is Singapore worth visiting during Chinese New Year?

Hi, I will be visiting Singapore/Borneo from mid-January for about 2 weeks. I could finish the trip before New Year's Day or stay and fly out on Feb. 2 or 3. Should I avoid travelling during New Year's as it's crowded, or is it worth it to "experience" the holiday in Singapore?

Thanks,
ps Any suggestions of how much time to spend and where would be welcome!

Hi Sha

If you've never seen how Chinese New Year is celebrated in this part of the world, it is worth tweaking your itinerary to have a look. Particularly, check out:

1) Chinese New Year Light Up and Night Markets in Chinatown

2) The River Hongbao Festival at Marina Bay

and if you are still around beyond the first few days of Chinese New Year in Singapore,

3) Chingay Parade

Have an enjoyable Chinese New Year in Singapore.
